New Beginnings
Only by sharing together--men and women, with and without children, the left and the leavers—can we ultimately understand that an end is also a NEW BEGINNING.
Monthly gatherings just for fun, where everyone is single, provide a friendly place to practice new social skills.
offers a divorce support group and an essential structure and the crucial community of others to heal the pain, speed recovery and move beyond the hurt toward a better future.
Our discussion meetings are led by a New Beginnings member-volunteer trained to facilitate the discussion. You may join the conversation or just listen; there is never any pressure to talk.
Established in 1979, New Beginnings® is the oldest and only support group in the DC metro area that deals strictly with separation/divorce and is open to people with or without children.
A marital separation is a life crisis that can happen to anyone for a variety of reasons. The world as you knew it is gone. Whether it was your choice or a choice thrust upon you, the impact on your daily life, sense of self and trust in others can be devastating. If you have children, you worry about how they will cope and the long-term effect on their lives.
New Beginnings® offers the collective wisdom and the community of others to help you heal from the hurt and find your way to the other side as a stronger, happier person.
Our divorce support groups serve as a safe and empathetic space where individuals who are experiencing or have gone through divorce can come together to share their feelings, challenges, and experiences. These groups offer a supportive community where members can connect, find solace, and gain valuable insights from others who understand their situation. Through open discussions, group members can express their emotions, fears, and uncertainties related to divorce, while also receiving encouragement and advice on coping strategies and healing.
Facilitators often lead these groups, guiding discussions and providing relevant resources. Group meetings may cover various topics, such as emotional well-being, co-parenting, legal processes, financial adjustments, and rebuilding one’s life post-divorce. By offering a platform for open dialogue, these support groups help individuals feel less isolated, validate their emotions, and empower them to make informed decisions during this challenging phase. The connections forged within these groups can lead to lasting friendships, increased self-awareness, and a stronger sense of resilience as participants navigate the complexities of divorce and embark on a journey of healing and personal growth.
Expertise in divorce support encompasses emotional guidance, practical advice, and the ability to create a supportive community, all of which contribute to helping individuals transition through the challenges of divorce and emerge stronger on the other side.
Only by sharing together--men and women, with and without children, the left and the leavers—can we ultimately understand that an end is also a NEW BEGINNING.
Topics include issues specifically for people in the early stages of separation. All meetings are facilitated by a member volunteer trained to guide the discussion.
